“Rhaenys was a child too. Prince Rhaegar’s daughter. A precious little thing, younger than your girls. She had a small black kitten she called Balerion, did you know? I always wondered what happened to him. Rhaenys liked to pretend he was the true Balerion, the Black Dread of old, but I imagine the Lannisters taught her the difference between a kitten and a dragon quick enough, the day they broke down her door.”
-AGOT, Eddard XV
The last moments of Princess Rhaenys
Sometimes I try to imagine how scared little Rhaenys felt under that bed, hiding with her cat, and I feel very sad.
“An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys shall be avenged.”
Our son shall be avenged.
“When we got on set to rehearse, it has to be known, it was Matt Smith, in a turn of fucking genius, who offered the idea that Daemon should give Rhaenyra the news while we’re both walking away from camera, towards the fireplace. It was a sublime choice, and I could see it instantly. We’ve sort of touched on it, but I think losing a child, losing her son, it reframes grief immediately.” – Emma D’Arcy.
